JORGE SANCHEZ is a self-taught Filipino artist. He worked for over 10 years in Manila as a pharmacist before moving to the UK. Before long he picked up a paintbrush and started creating his own work, reviving the interest he has had in art since his schooldays. Since he started painting about eight years ago he has developed a distinctive abstract/impressionist style.
Jorge has a fascination for colour and texture. He uses a variety of media including household paints, oils, pastels and acrylic, applying them to the canvas with brush, palette knife or fingers. He finds inspiration in the natural world – many of his paintings reflect the joy of walks in London’s green spaces. When he starts to paint, he doesn’t always have an image in mind; but once the brush or palette knife makes contact with the canvas, it moves with its own energy and the image emerges as layer upon layer is applied or scraped away.
